Buurtrun Leuven is a free and accessible running event for children, young people, and local residents from more vulnerable backgrounds in Leuven. What started two years ago as a sporting activity for more than 400 children from Leuven has grown into a vibrant community event where exercise, connection, and fun take centre stage.

In the lead-up to the Leuven Marathon, Buurtsport, the Leuven Community Centres, the Youth Service, and neighbourhood organisation ’t Lampeke bring together young and old in a low-threshold and welcoming way. Participants run at their own pace, while supporters can enjoy entertainment and community activities. In this way, the event creates a warm meeting place where sport brings people together and strengthens neighbourhood connections.

With the ambition of further developing De Bruul-Parc into a social and sporting meeting place, Buurtrun Leuven focuses on sustainable connections, health, and participation in sport. Together, we are building an annual tradition that not only encourages people to get active but also helps create stronger, more connected communities.

Buurtrun is more than a one-off running event. It is an investment in the future. By introducing children and young people to running and physical activity in a positive and accessible way from an early age, we contribute to a healthy and active lifestyle.

Participants are given the opportunity to build self-confidence, develop new skills, and discover the joy of sport in a warm and supportive environment. In doing so, the Buurtrun promotes a sustainable sporting culture in Leuven, where everyone has the opportunity to grow, thrive, and feel connected to their neighbourhood and community.
