The unforgettable success of the European Running Championships 2025 continued last year, and what a follow-up it was. On 19/04/2026, 17,900 runners made history together during the very first Leuven Marathon.
Leuven truly lived up to its reputation as the city where champions always run: the streets filled with runners, supporters lined the course in deep rows, and complete strangers embraced each other at the finish line.
This year, we continue writing this story. Expect three distances once again (10 km, half marathon or marathon) and a familiar course that runs through the vibrant heart of Leuven, with start and finish at Philipssite. Marathon runners will also take on a beautiful green loop through the Brabantse Wouden. With DJs, entertainment and a full weekend of activities, the Leuven Marathon is so much more than just a race.

First Leuven Marathon a Resounding Success
Even though the Leuven Marathon built on the tremendous success of last year’s European Running Championships, it proved to be a resounding success. Thanks to the 17,900 participants it exceeded expectations and again turned into a wonderful running celebration enjoyed by the entire city and the many supporters lining the route. Conditions were perfect for running at 9 a.m. this morning at the start of the 10K and marathon. A glorious morning sun warmed the participants in the starting grids. There were 3,300 marathon runners lined up on Naamsevest, and later on they were joined by no fewer than 5,700 runners starting the 10K. That
